Mise-en scene blog post

Multimedia Mise-en-scene Project: The Adventure of Rhia Wildur

For our Multimedia Mise-en-scene project, our goal was to make our display as clear and visually pleasing as possible by using sound and visuals to transport the viewer directly into the jungle. We wanted the sound immersion to be a realistic demonstration of the jungle environment—filled with footsteps, rustling leaves, and animal sounds to make it feel as if you were truly there.

Our character, Rhia Wildur, is a 22-year-old woman on a dangerous journey through the jungle in search of the legendary Golden Treasure Box. She travels with her emotional support animal, Rufus the monkey, who never leaves her side. Rhia’s design was inspired by an Indiana Jones–style adventure aesthetic. We imagined her as tall, lean, and rugged, with a sun-kissed olive skin tone, green eyes, and brown hair with golden highlights features that reflect the toughness and determination of a true explorer. The representation of Rhia highlights bravery and independence, which are qualities often associated with female adventurers who challenge stereotypes and take control of their own journeys.

To bring our character to life, we used several physical elements in our station. We included a map and a piece of journal paper to represent Rhia’s journey and her record of the adventure. The map was placed in the very center of our table to draw the audience’s attention, as it was our main storytelling piece. The journal page acted as a message she left behind for anyone who might find it. We also placed a small watch clock, representing her compass, and a bag filled with gold and pearls, showing the treasure, she ultimately found. To create a more authentic and aged look, I used coffee water to stain and texture the paper, giving it the appearance of a map.

Overall, as a group we worked well together and combined our creative ideas to make the project come to life. Everyone contributed in some way whether through sound design, layout, or prop creation. Although we believe we could have done even better our final product wasn't bad. The use of representation techniques, such as costume design, props, and sound, helped us clearly communicate Rhia’s adventurous personality and setting.

Genre Reasearch Blog

 Sci -Fi Project

How is it Science Fiction?

Being that technology and futuristic ideas are a big part of our world today; I thought it was good to research the genre of Science Fiction.

Sci-fi is known for exploring imaginative worlds filled with advanced technology, outer space adventures, and scientific discoveries that challenge what we know about reality. The genre often asks, “what if?”—what if humans lived on other planets or made contact with alien life? Sci-fi uses creativity and science to tell stories that entertain while making us think about the future and the effects of on humanity.

Genre Conventions- Content:

Sci-fi films often feature futuristic environments, advanced technology, and themes about science and humanity. Many stories feature robots, spaceships, or powerful scientific tools that can help or hurt people. Sci-fi films use CGI, visual effects, and virtual reality to create realistic futuristic worlds. Wonder and danger are also created by lighting, sound, and costume design.

Ex: Hunger Games because it shows a futuristic world with advanced technology. The arenas, weapons, and surveillance systems are high-tech and controlled by the government. The movie uses CGI and special effects to make the Capitol and game environments look real.

 Production Techniques:

Sci-fi films often use computer-generated imagery (CGI) and visual effects to create futuristic cities, spaceships, or alien worlds. Directors may use motion capture or virtual sets to bring impossible environments to life. Lighting and color schemes are carefully chosen to make scenes feel futuristic, mysterious, or otherworldly. Sound effects and music are used to enhance technology, space travel, or suspense. These production techniques make the story feel believable, exciting, and fully immersive for the audience.

Marketing:

Sci-fi movie marketing focuses on imagination and visual excitement. In order to draw in action and fantasy audiences, trailers often include fast-paced scenes, amazing special effects, and interesting new worlds. Posters promise adventure and progress by highlighting technology, strong characters, and vibrant colors. Both younger and older audiences continue to enjoy the genre thanks to product like video games, toys, and limited-edition items.

A great example of Sci fi is Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), which builds a rich alien world called Pandora, is a powerful example of the sci-fi genre. Motion capture and advanced computer graphics are used in the movie to give the characters and environments a realistic feel. Classic sci-fi themes that question the relationship between technology and humanity are explored, including human greed, nature, and survival.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) is another example, its depiction of the futuristic African nation of Wakanda, which is powered by the fictional metal vibranium. The story skillfully blends advanced science and technology with culture and tradition, showing how technology influences the identity, politics, and power structures of the nation. The filmmakers used visual effects, CGI, and imaginative set design to create a world that feels both technologically advanced and culturally rich. Themes such as the ethical use of technology, leadership, and societal responsibility are explored, making Wakanda Forever an excellent example of Sci-Fi’s ability to combine futuristic ideas with meaningful story on human society.

Some others to consider:

Blog post Sound

Hey blog! A while back I learned about how sound can make a great difference to a film production and how to incorporate sound into your film.

We started off, watching a short clip from the old Jurassic Park movie and was asked to name all the sound we heard. We also had a take note about different sounds, which the teacher gave specific examples such as Sound effects, music, sound perspective and etc.

For Sound project #1, we worked in a group of 2 people we created a Soundscape Planning Outline for a 1–2-minute, school-appropriate scene. Brainstorm 1–2-minute scenes that literally take place in that time frame. Choose one scene and create a detailed outline of the sound effects that will tell the story. The scene may only contain seven spoken words in total. My partner and I decided to do the Amazon Rainforest our idea was to we wanted to do as much sound as possible to make sure our project is clear and specific. In addition, our main focus for our outline consisted of rain, animal sounds, talking, footsteps, driving noises, and voiceovers. We used Clipchamp which helped us layer our sounds to make it more realistic. Overall, my partner and I project was well with a clear motive. A few things I would say we tried putting in heartbeats, but you can’t hear them as well as you can’t hear the bus driving, and some may get confused. The end of the project we should’ve added the animal footsteps as well.

To conclude, for the Sound Project #2 we worked with a group of 2 as well, but this time it’s the same person you had made your short film with no sound a while back. Your group needs to collaboratively develop a detailed list of sound effects for your "One Word Film" video, formatted like the previous sound project outline. Create a Sound List: Develop an outline of all the sounds (environmental, Foley, music, and stings) needed to create a realistic soundscape that supports your assigned word. Collect Sounds: Work together to record or find these sounds (Foley stage encouraged!).Individual Editing: Each group member must individually edit their unique soundscape onto the original video submission. We didn’t have to do much for brainstorming because we brainstormed for the project already, so we had to just add sound effects. For the project I used Clipchamp because it was easier than adobe premiere. Overall, I think my project was good I used realistic sounds that matched perfectly with some of the shots. Then only thing I would say is that the voiceovers don’t match with the person, so it does sound weird, but it doesn’t tell the story and is in the theme of what we had to do.

Wow.... I can't believe this is the end of my project for AICE Media it was an experience I think I wouldn't forgot being in the mo...
