Multimedia Mise-en-scene Project: The Adventure of Rhia Wildur
For our Multimedia Mise-en-scene project, our goal was to make our display as clear and visually pleasing as possible by using sound and visuals to transport the viewer directly into the jungle. We wanted the sound immersion to be a realistic demonstration of the jungle environment—filled with footsteps, rustling leaves, and animal sounds to make it feel as if you were truly there.
Our character, Rhia Wildur, is a 22-year-old woman on a dangerous journey through the jungle in search of the legendary Golden Treasure Box. She travels with her emotional support animal, Rufus the monkey, who never leaves her side. Rhia’s design was inspired by an Indiana Jones–style adventure aesthetic. We imagined her as tall, lean, and rugged, with a sun-kissed olive skin tone, green eyes, and brown hair with golden highlights features that reflect the toughness and determination of a true explorer. The representation of Rhia highlights bravery and independence, which are qualities often associated with female adventurers who challenge stereotypes and take control of their own journeys.
To bring our character to life, we used several physical elements in our station. We included a map and a piece of journal paper to represent Rhia’s journey and her record of the adventure. The map was placed in the very center of our table to draw the audience’s attention, as it was our main storytelling piece. The journal page acted as a message she left behind for anyone who might find it. We also placed a small watch clock, representing her compass, and a bag filled with gold and pearls, showing the treasure, she ultimately found. To create a more authentic and aged look, I used coffee water to stain and texture the paper, giving it the appearance of a map.
Overall, as a group we worked well together and combined our creative ideas to make the project come to life. Everyone contributed in some way whether through sound design, layout, or prop creation. Although we believe we could have done even better our final product wasn't bad. The use of representation techniques, such as costume design, props, and sound, helped us clearly communicate Rhia’s adventurous personality and setting.
